"Jody Byrd reels in the magic of Christmas on beautiful new single
(Published: December 09, 2020)
"And it takes me back to a time when everything is new," sings Jody Byrd on his new single "Wintertime." Perhaps the same can be said of his Yuletide sentiments in the track, which reel in the sweetest of Christmas memories and makes them feel like newly-minted experiences.
There is a magical aura around the holiday that is irresistible and timeless, which is beautifully captured by Byrd here. This is no cover, no warmed-over version of a standard beaten senseless by countless karaoke renditions.
Byrd, who is also the lead singer and founder of the Southwest Biscuit Company, breathes new life in Xmas music by returning it to its roots: its joyful, youthful exuberance. Byrd's soulful croon echoes Frank Sinatra at his most blue-eyed and soulful. He sings with passion and depth.
In the opening of the tune, Byrd's vocals have a cinematic allure; one can already imagine the colorful tree lights illuminating snow-covered homes as soon as he begins convey his postcard images of the season. His voice is warm and soothing; it's like a cup of hot chocolate on a chilly evening.
When "Wintertime" picks up the tempo, Byrd radiates the swing and swagger of Sinatra in his prime. This is vintage vocal jazz lovingly produced by Paul Ottinger (who also mixed, engineered, and mastered it). Carey Frank's piano evolves from a scenic December ballad to an upbeat jam, brimming with sparkling melodies. The pulsating bass of Dustin Morgan and robust drumming by Kevin Stewart echo the dazzling, emotionally uplifting mood of Christmas like few can these days.
"Wintertime" delivers the gift of gorgeous music to help end an icy, challenging year."

Wintertime lyrics

Intro:
Looking out of my window
I see all of the smiling faces
Creating memories
They’ll have their whole life through
And it takes me back
To a time
When everything was new
And Christmas was twinkle in my eye
Verse:
Lets go build a snowman
The weathers just perfect
Come on get up lets go man
The effort will be worth it
We’ll build the best snowman on the block
The hill isn’t too far we can walk
Then maybe later we’ll go skating in the park
The pond should be frozen we can stay there til dark
We’ll have the most wonderful day
Perfect in every way
Chorus:
Wintertime is a happy time for everyone you see
Snowball fights and toboggan flights
For you and me
Candy canes and sugar plums
Rooty toots and rummy tums
Wintertime is a happy time for me
Verse:
And then tomorrow we’ll go shopping in the square
I found the perfect present for mom and dad there
I just can’t wait to see their face
When they open it Christmas day
And after were home hot chocolate by the fire
Where we can thaw out and maybe conspire to dream
Of that wonderful day
it isn’t too far away
(repeat chorus – piano solo- repeat chorus tag 2X)
Wintertime is a happy time for me
Wintertime is a happy time for me
